Marine Gazetteer

"Geographic Information Systems have become indispensable tools in managing and displaying marine data and information. However, a unique georeferenced standard of marine place names and areas was not available, hampering several marine geographic applications, for example the linking of these locations to databases to integrate data. The purpose of Marine Regions is therefore to create a standard, relational list of geographic names, coupled with information and maps of the geographic location of these features.

CRS Named-Entity Subject Terms Used in THOMAS

"Legislative analysts from the Congressional Research Service (CRS) closely examine the content of each bill and resolution and assign (index) as many Subject terms as are required to describe the measure's substance and effects. Beginning with the 111th Congress, all legislative measures are assigned at least one Subject term drawn from the terms presented at CRS Legislative Subject Terms. Searchable Subjects also include a large number of terms corresponding to geographic areas (foreign and domestic), U.S. government entities, and congressional committees shown in the list below."


"The GeoNames geographical database is available for download free of charge under a creative commons attribution license. It contains over 10 million geographical names and consists of over 9 million unique features whereof 2.8 million populated places and 5.5 million alternate names. All features are categorized into one out of nine feature classes and further subcategorized into one out of 645 feature codes. (...) The data is accessible free of charge through a number of webservices and a daily database export.

"Aquest diccionari conté més de dos-cents termes específics d'aquest àmbit en onze llengües diferents. Els termes contenen les denominacions i definicions en set de les vuit llengües europees no estatals que han participat en el projecte (aromanès, català, cors, gallec, ladí, occità i sard). A més, es poden consultar els equivalents corresponents en les quatre llengües amb més difusió internacional en el sector (castellà, francès, anglès i alemany).

"Aquest diccionari aplega més de dos mil termes pertanyents bàsicament a les àrees de la biogeografia, la ciència de sòl, la climatologia, la geomorfologia i la hidrologia. Cada article terminològic conté, a més de la denominació catalana, les equivalències en castellà, francès i anglès, la definició i, sovint, notes explicatives. Com a complement, hi trobareu una vintena de quadres que contenen més d'un miler de termes catalans.
