"The present thesaurus has been constructed as an instrument to facilitate the use of information technologies to assist in the management of human rights knowledge and to achieve greater communication and integration among users of the Joint Library of the Court and This thesaurus has been conceived not only as a guide for the construction of the database, but as a conceptual reference tool useful for guiding and facilitating the selection, retrieval, analysis, indexing and dissemination of information. This thesaurus consolidates the meanings of terms used in different databases and other specialized thesauri.This way the thesaurus helps to maximize a great diversity of terminology existing in the region and to represent their relations. "El presente tesauro se ha construído como un instrumento que facilite el uso de tecnologías de información, para ayudar en la gerencia del conocimiento sobre los derechos humanos, y para lograr una mayor comunicación e integración entre los usuarios de la Biblioteca Conjunta de la Corte y del Instituto Interamericano de Derechos Humanos. Este tesauro se ha concebido no sólo como una guía para la construcción de la base de datos, sino como un instrumento de referencia conceptual útil para orientar y facilitar la selección, recuperación, análisis, indización y diseminación de la documentación sobre derechos humanos. Este tesauro consolida significados de términos utilizados en diferentes bases de datos y otros tesauros especializados. De esta manera el tesauro ayuda a jeraquizar una gran diversidad de terminología existente en la región y a representar sus relaciones. La definición de las facetas y la selección de términos incluídos en cada una de ellas, permite que haya consistencia y coherencia al momento de la búsqueda, y a la vez disminuye el porcentaje de errores que suceden al procesar e indizar documentos, facilitando la identificación de equivalentes lingüísticos y la convergencia con otros vocabularios controlados."
