"Family type is a key variable for determining the demographic characteristics of a population. Five classifications are included in the scope of this statistical standard: family type classification; family nucleus containing birth/biological, adopted children classification; family nucleus containing step children classification; family nucleus containing grandparent(s) in a parent role classification; family nucleus containing other children classification.
Family type is a hierarchical classification with three levels. Level 1 of the classification has three categories. Level 2 of the classification has 10 categories, and level 3 has 12 categories."
