Names, people and groups of people in the Middle Ages

The database contains approximately 450,000 records of personal names from Europe between the 4th and 12th centuries. The majority are taken directly from medieval manuscripts, while a smaller portion comes from critical editions. Around 60,000 records were compiled since the 1990s as part of the Nomen et Gens (NeG) project. An additional 390,000 records originate from individual projects dating back to the late 1960s (including within the Collaborative Research Centre 7 “Medieval Research” in Münster) and were later managed at the universities of Freiburg and Duisburg-Essen (DMP).

Die Datenbank enthält ca. 450.000 Personennamenbelege aus dem europäischen Raum des 4. bis 12. Jahrhunderts. Ein Großteil stammt direkt aus mittelalterlichen Handschriften, ein kleinerer Teil aus kritischen Editionen. Rund 60.000 Belege wurden seit den 1990er Jahren im Projekt Nomen et Gens (NeG) erfasst. Weitere ca. 390.000 Belege stammen aus Einzelprojekten seit den späten 1960er Jahren (u. a. im SFB 7 „Mittelalterforschung“ in Münster) und wurden später an den Universitäten Freiburg und Duisburg-Essen (DMP) verwaltet.
