Folk religion of villages in Korea

Polk Religion of Villages in Korea is a survey of village community beliefs that are currently handed down at the National Folk Museum of Korea. Due to various factors such as industrialization, urbanization, and migration, village beliefs are rapidly disappearing, and the scale is reduced in local village communities, including large cities, and the form is changing briefly, but village beliefs are still being handed down. This is because there are still people who try to protect village beliefs. From this point of view, it is necessary to observe and record how village beliefs are maintained and how they are changing.

In 2007, the National Folk Museum of Korea published an on-site survey report on Korean village beliefs on a nationwide basis from 2005 to 2006. In addition, from 2022, the National Folk Museum of Korea divides the whole country into six regions, including Seoul, Gyeonggi, Incheon, Gyeongsang, Jeolla, Chungcheong, Gangwon, and Jeju, and conducts a survey of village beliefs by region and records them. Through the record of the survey table on the status of village beliefs included in the survey report, it is possible to find out whether the village beliefs continue and disappear over time.

한국의 마을신앙(Folk religion of villages in Korea)은 국립민속박물관에서 현재 전승되는 마을공동체 신앙에 대하여 조사한 것이다. 산업화, 도시화, 이주 등의 다양한 요인으로 인해 마을신앙은 빠르게 사라지고, 대도시를 비롯한 지역의 마을 공동체에서는 그 규모는 축소되고, 형식은 간략하게 바뀌어 가지만, 여전히 마을신앙이 전해오고 있다. 이는 마을신앙을 지키기 위해 노력하는 사람들이 여전히 존재하고 있기 때문이다. 이러한 관점에서 마을신앙이 어떻게 유지되고 있는지, 어떻게 변화되고 있는지 등에 관해 관찰하고, 기록할 필요가 있다.

2007년에 국립민속박물관은 2005년~2006년에 걸쳐 전국적 단위로 한국의 마을신앙을 조사한 현장 조사보고서를 냈다. 그리고, 2022년부터 국립민속박물관은 서울•경기•인천권, 경상권, 전라권, 충청권, 강원권, 제주권 등 전국을 여섯 개의 권역으로 나누고, 권역별 마을신앙 조사를 시행하여 기록하고 있다. 조사보고서에 수록된 마을신앙 현황조사표 기록을 통해 시간에 따른 마을신앙의 지속여부와 소멸 여부를 알 수 있다.
