National Portrait List

A portrait is a painting of a specific person. In ancient documents, the names Jin 眞, Yeong 影, Jinyoung 眞影, Yeongjeong 影幀, and Burn 畫 were used. During the Joseon Dynasty, as the idea of Sunghyeon, which honors and honors ancestors, became widespread, portraits of kings and royal figures or ordinary nobles were actively produced.

The National Institute of Cultural Heritage's Art and Cultural Heritage Research Center will push for the "Korea Portrait DB Construction Project" to make it easier and more convenient for Koreans to find state-designated portraits scattered across the country in one place. In particular, we would like to contribute to the research and enjoyment of our art heritage by allowing us to look at portraits that were difficult for the general public to access because they were owned by individuals, families, and private institutions in ultra-high-resolution images of more than 100 million pixels.

The number of state-designated portraits to be presented in this project is 83 cases and 131 national treasures, 7 national treasures, 76 treasures, and 106 portraits are as follows.

초상화는 특정 인물의 모습을 그린 그림입니다. 옛 문헌에는 ‘진眞’, ‘영影’, ‘상像’, ‘진영眞影’, ‘영정影幀’, ‘화상畫像’ 등의 명칭으로 기록되어 있습니다. 조선 시대에는 선현들을 기리고 모시는 숭현사상이 널리 퍼지면서 왕과 왕실의 인물이나 나라에 공을 세운 공신과 일반 사대부를 그린 초상화가 활발하게 제작되었습니다.

국립문화유산연구원 미술문화유산연구실은 우리 국민들이 전국에 흩어져 있는 국가지정 초상화를 한 곳에서 보다 쉽고 편리하게 찾아보실 수 있도록 「한국의 초상화 DB 구축 사업」을 추진합니다. 특히 개인이나 문중, 사립기관 등이 소장하고 있어 일반인이 접근하기 어려웠던 초상화를 1억 화소 이상의 초고해상도 이미지로 살펴보실 수 있게 하여 우리 미술유산의 연구와 향유 증진에 기여하고자 합니다.

이번 사업에서 선보일 국가지정 초상화는 83건 131점으로, 국보 7건 25점, 보물 76건 106점이며, 초상화의 형식은 다음과 같습니다.
