About 20 ironmaking sites have been excavated from the Three Kingdoms period to the Joseon Dynasty in Chungcheongbuk-do, and in particular, in Chungju, 96 ironmaking sites and 456 coal tanks were identified at 45 sites, proving that iron production was actively carried out. Representative relics include Jincheon Seokjang-ri, Gusan-ri, Chungju Chilgeum-dong, Daehwa-ri, and Cheongwon Yeonje-ri.

중원지역 제철기술:제철유적 목록(Ironmaking Technology in the Jungwon Region: A List of Ironmaking Sites)은 남한강 수계와 풍부한 철광석, 목탄, 점토 등의 자원 덕분에 중원지역이 철 생산에 최적화된 지역임을 보여줍니다. 충청북도에서 삼국시대부터 조선시대까지 약 20여 곳의 제철유적이 발굴되었으며, 특히 충주에서는 96개소의 제철유적과 45개소에서 456기의 탄요가 확인되어 철 생산이 활발히 이루어졌음을 증명합니다. 대표적인 유적으로는 진천 석장리, 구산리, 충주 칠금동, 대화리, 청원 연제리 등이 있습니다.
