우리말의 쓰임이 궁금할 때 국어사전을 찾게 됩니다. 그런데 막상 사전을 찾아도 정보가 없거나 설명이 어려워 아쉬움을 느낄 때가 있습니다. 그동안 간행된 사전들은 여러 가지 제약이 있어 정보를 압축하여 제한적으로 수록하였기 때문입니다.

사용자가 참여하는 ‘우리말샘’은 이런 문제점을 극복하고자 기획되었습니다. 한국어를 사용하는 우리 모두가 주체가 되어 예전에 사용되었거나 현재 사용되고 있는 어휘를 더욱 다양하고 알기 쉽게 수록하고자 합니다. 또한 전통적인 사전 정보 이외에 다양한 언어 지식도 실어 한국어에 관한 많은 궁금증을 푸는 통로가 되고자 합니다.

국립국어원에서 간행한 ‘표준국어대사전’에 실린 말뿐만 아니라, 그동안 국어사전에서는 싣지 않았으나 실제로 쓰이는 말들도 대폭 실었습니다. 100만 어휘로 출발했지만 앞으로 그 수는 계속 늘어날 것입니다.

‘우리말샘’에서는 한국어에 관심 있는 모든 사람이 편집에 참여할 수 있습니다.

지금까지 사전의 편집은 사전 전문가들만의 영역이었습니다. ‘우리말샘’은 한국어에 관심이 있는 모든 사람이 자신이 가진 한국어 지식을 나눌 수 있도록 편집을 개방합니다.
