National List of Marine Species

The National List of Marine Species is a nationally published booklet listing species confirmed to inhabit Korea, in accordance with Article 9, Paragraph 3 of the Act on the Acquisition, Management, and Utilization of Marine and Fishery Resources and Article 5 of the Enforcement Decree of the same Act, to serve as scientific evidence for securing national biological sovereignty. The National Marine Biological Resources Institute has conducted research and published the book annually since 2016. The "2023 National List of Marine and Fishery Species" currently includes a total of 15,198 species, including 15,010 marine species and 188 freshwater species, residing in our waters. Of these, the National Marine Biological Resources Institute and National Institute of Fisheries Science, responsible marine and fishery bioresource organizations, and registered preservation institutions, have indicated whether they hold 9,339 species (9,206 marine species and 133 freshwater species).

*As of the 2023 National Marine Species List, there are 67 phyla, 176 classes, 596 orders, 2,229 families, 6,244 genera, and 15,198 species in the taxonomic group. The largest group of species is marine invertebrates, with the Arthropoda and Mollusca phyla showing the highest number of species.

국가해양수산생물종 목록집(National List of Marine Species)은『해양수산생명자원의 확보·관리 및 이용 등에 관한 법률』 제9조제3항 및 동법 시행령 제5조에 따라 국가 생물주권 확보의 과학적 근거자료로 이용하기위하여 우리나라 서식이 확인된 생물종을 목록화한 국가 차원에서 발간되는 책자이다. 국립해양생물자원관에서 2016년부터 매년 조사 및 발간하고 있다. 「2023 국가해양수산생물종 목록집」은 현재까지 우리 바다에 서식하는해양생물 15,010종 및 담수생물 188종 등 총 15,198종을 수록하였고, 그 중 해양수산생명자원 책임기관(국립해양생물자원관, 국립수산과학원) 및 기탁등록보존기관이 소장하고 있는 9,339종(해양생물 9,206종, 담수수산생물 133종)에 대하여 보유 여부를 표시하였다.

*2023 국가 해양수산생물종목록집 기준으로 분류군은 67문, 176강, 596목, 2229과, 6,244속, 15,198종이다. 이중 가장 많은 종을 포함하고 있는 대분류은 해양무척추동물이며 그중에서도 절지동물문과 연체동물문이 높은 종수를 나타내고 있다.
