Abstract:

"Seo é an bunachar náisiúnta téarmaíochta don Ghaeilge a d’fhorbair Fiontar i gcomhpháirt leis an gCoiste Téarmaíochta, Foras na Gaeilge.
Tá os cionn 338,000 téarma ar fáil sa bhunachar agus iad inchuardaithe faoi na leaganacha Gaeilge agus Béarla. Bhain os cionn 2.3 milliún cuairteoir uathúla leas as an suíomh idir 2006 agus lár 2014. Thug na daoine sin 9.8 milliún cuairt ar an suíomh agus rinne siad breis is 56 milliún cuardach lena linn sin. De réir suirbhéanna úsáideoirí bliantúla a rinne Fiontar idir 2010 agus 2014, is aistritheoirí agus ateangairí mar aon le mic léinn ollscoile is mó a bhaineann úsáid as an suíomh. Is féidir breathnú ar na staitisticí ó mhí go mí anseo.
Cuireadh an chéad chéim den obair i gcrích le cúnamh ó INTERREG III A (2004–7). Faoi Chéim I rinneadh scata bunliostaí ar phár agus ábhar leictreonach a dhigitiú agus a chomhtháthú i mbunachar. Leanann Fiontar de bhainistiú na hacmhainne seo le maoiniú ar bhonn tionscadail ó Fhoras na Gaeilge. Tá go leor forbairtí déanta ar an mbunachar ó seoladh é, lena n-áirítear bailiúchán nua de théarmaí spóirt, ealaíne agus dlí, acmhainní d’aistritheoirí agus an suíomh a cheangal le Nua-Chorpas na hÉireann.
Cuireadh tús le Céim V den tionscadal ar 1 Meitheamh 2014 agus, i measc nithe eile, tá sé i gceist cnuasach téarmaí ríomhaireachta a fhorbairt. Aistríodh óstáil an Bhunachar Náisiúnta Téarmaíochta don Ghaeilge ó DCU chuig Tibus i mí Bealtaine 2014. Is é Fiontar DCU atá freagrach as an bhfeidhmchlár, ach is iad Tibus atá freagrach as óstáil (infhaighteacht, tapúlacht, srl.) an tsuímh. Athraíodh seoladh idirlín an Bhunachar Náisiúnta Téarmaíochta don Ghaeilge ó focal.ie go tearma.ie ar an 1 Márta 2015."

English Abstract:

"The database contains over 338,000 terms, searchable under both Irish and English versions. More than 2.3 million unique visitors used the website between 2006 and mid 2014. They made 9.8 million visits and 56 million searches in that time. According to annual user surveys carried out by Fiontar since 2010, the site is primarily used by translators and interpreters and by university students. (...).
The first phase of the work was done with funding from INTERREG III A (2004-7). Phase I of the work consisted of digitising and integrating existing paper and electronic lists. Fiontar continues to manage and develop this resource with project funding from Foras na Gaeilge. Many resources have been added under subsequent phases, including collections of sports, arts and legal terms, tools for translation memories and other resources for translators, and a link facility to The New Corpus for Ireland.
Phase V of the project began on 1 June 2014 and, among other things, a collection of computing terms is being developed. Hosting of the National Terminology Database for Irish was transferred from DCU to Tibus in May 2014. Fiontar is responsible for the application, but Tibus is now responsible for the site-hosting (availability, speed, etc). The web address for the National Terminology Database for Irish changed from focal.ie to tearma.ie on 1 March 2015."
