Korean Industrial Standards

The term "industrial standard" means the standard for unifying and simplifying the type, shape, quality, production methods, methods of testing, inspection, measurement, methods of providing services related to industrial activities, etc. The Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy operates industrial standards under the Industrial Standardization Act, and the business standards announced accordingly are referred to as the Korean Industrial Standards (KS).

KS (Korean Industrial Standards) is abbreviated to KS as national standards determined by the head of the National Institute of Technology and Standards and announced by the head of the competent department after deliberation by the Industrial Standards Council under the Industrial Standardization Act. Under the enactment of the Industrial Standardization Act 1961, 3,000 national standards have been in operation since 1962. In accordance with the WTO/TBT Agreement and the recommendations in APEC/SCSC, standards corresponding to international standards are complied with.

The Korean Industrial Standards are composed of 21 categories, from the basic sector (A) to the information sector (X), and can be classified into three main categories:

fi Product standard: stipulating the improvement, dimensions, quality, etc. of a product

fi Method standards : testing, analysis, inspection and measurement methods, working standards, etc.

fi Standard for delivery : stipulated terms, technology, unit, sequence, etc.

"산업표준"이란 광공업품의 종류, 형상, 품질, 생산방법, 시험·검사·측정방법 및 산업활동과 관련된 서비스의 제공방법·절차 등을 통일하고, 단순화하기 위한 기준을 말한다. 산업통상자원부 장관은 산업표준화법에 의거하여 산업표준을 운영하며, 이에 따라 고시된 사업표준을 한국산업표준(KS)이라 한다.

한국산업표준(KS: Korean Industrial Standards)은 산업표준화법에 의거하여 산업표준심의회의 심의를 거쳐 국가기술표준원장 및 소관부처의 장이 고시함으로써 확정되는 국가표준으로서 약칭하여 KS로 표시한다. 1961년 공업표준화법 제정에 따라 1962년 3,000종의 국가표준을 시작으로 현재까지 운용되고 있으며, WTO/TBT협정과 APEC/SCSC에서의 권고에 따라 국제표준과 대응되는 표준의 경우 부합화 하여 운영한다.

한국산업표준은 기본부문(A)부터 정보부문(X)까지 21개 부문으로 구성되며 크게 다음 세 가지로 분류할 수 있다.

① 제품표준 : 제품의 향상ㆍ치수ㆍ품질 등을 규정한 것

② 방법표준 : 시험ㆍ분석ㆍ검사 및 측정방법, 작업표준 등을 규정한 것

③ 전달표준 : 용어ㆍ기술ㆍ단위ㆍ수열 등을 규정한 것
