Thesaurus of economics and social sciences

ThESS - Thesaurus of Economics and Social Sciences of the Library Mario Rostoni is a controlled vocabulary constructed by drawing the terms mainly but not just from business-legal and business documents. ThESS is born and grows in relation to library acquisitions and the necessity to express the contents of the books to favor searches by subject.

It is used in the following functions: Cataloging Acquired Library Material: Thesaurus terms are assigned to each bibliographic record as keywords and combined by catalogers in cohesive subject strings to express the subject of the book. Document Retrieval: Thesaurus terms enable those who seek to retrieve documents, either by combining them with a search mask or by scrolling through the lists. Terminology-Conceptual Analysis in Research Processes: The relationship between the terms of the thesaurus allows to enrich the terminological heritage of a field or a research topic, guiding other words related to meaning used in the library catalog or any other tool . This thesaurus usage is widely presented in the Information Literacy courses of the Laurea and Master's Degree courses at the LIUC University. ThESS is born with a priority reference to the needs of the study and research community formed by the students, researchers and faculty of the Faculty of Business Economics, Management Engineering and Law of the Carlo Cattaneo - LIUC University. It can also be useful to librarians, catalogers, information specialists who manage and bibliographic and documentary collections of the same disciplinary areas. ThESS is a multidisciplinary thesaurus, one-hierarchical, organized based on categories of about 7000 terms. Includes proper names. It is compiled in accordance with ISO 2788 (1986) and BS 8723-1/2 (2005) standards."

"ThESS - Thesauro di economia e scienze sociali della Biblioteca Mario Rostoni è un vocabolario controllato costruito attingendo i termini prevalentemente, ma non soltanto, da documenti di area economico-aziendalistica e giuridica. ThESS nasce e cresce in relazione alle acquisizioni della Biblioteca e alla necessità di esprimere i contenuti dei libri per favorire le ricerche per argomento.

È impiegato nelle seguenti funzioni: Catalogazione del materiale librario acquisito: i termini del thesaurus vengono assegnati ad ogni registrazione bibliografica come parole chiave e combinati dai catalogatori in stringhe coestese di soggetto, per esprimere l'argomento del libro. Recupero di documenti: i termini di thesaurus consentono a chi cerca di recuperare documenti, attraverso la loro combinazione tramite maschera di ricerca o scorrendo le liste. Analisi terminologico-concettuale nei processi di ricerca: le relazioni tra i termini del thesaurus consentono di arricchire il patrimonio terminologico relativo a un ambito o a un argomento di ricerca, guidando ad altre parole affini per significato da impiegare nel catalogo della biblioteca o in qualsiasi altro strumento. Questo utilizzo del thesaurus è ampiamente presentato all'interno dei corsi di Information Literacy dei corsi di Laurea e Laurea magistrale dell'Università LIUC. ThESS nasce con un riferimento prioritario alle esigenze della comunità di studio e di ricerca formata dagli studenti, dai ricercatori e dai docenti delle Facoltà di economia aziendale, ingegneria gestionale e diritto dell'Università Carlo Cattaneo - LIUC. Può essere utile anche a bibliotecari, catalogatori, specialisti dell'informazione che gestiscono e collezioni bibliografiche e documentali delle medesime aree disciplinari. ThESS è un thesaurus multidisciplinare, monogerarchico, organizzato sulla base di categorie comprendente circa 7000 termini. Include nomi propri. È redatto nel rispetto degli standard ISO 2788 (1986) e BS 8723-1/2 (2005)."
